Navajo Transitional Energy Company, LLC (“NTEC”) is the third largest coal miner in the United States, accounting for 7.3% of total U.S. coal production in 2020. The company owns and operates four thermal coal mines in New Mexico, Wyoming, and Montana. The company’s coal is primarily used to power electricity generation facilities and is purchased by investment grade utilities companies such as Arizona Public Service, Alabama Power, DTE Energy (formerly known as Detroit Edison), and Tennessee Valley Authority.
The company is in the process of transitioning to helium mining as coal mining sunsets.
